Can Anything Else Go Wrong?

Published by Korrina - Proud Mom of Micro Preemie Twins at 12:39 pm under Family, Health

Whenever I roast a turkey or chicken I ALWAYS make my famous soup. So after having our turkey dinner on Sunday evening I spent the day in the kitchen on Monday making soup and pureed baby food. For supper we all had soup and turkey sandwiches, YUM YUM. Thanksgiving left overs are almost better than the dinner itself.

After we were all done filling our tummies with soup I turned the stove off to let the soup cool before I put it away in the fridge. I didn’t realize how late it had gotten and wanted to go to bed soon so I put the soup in ice cream pails and let it cool on the counter. When 10:30 rolled around and I was falling asleep on the couch I decided to put the soup away and go to bed. As I picked up the pail, before I could get my hand under it to support it, the handle broke. I screamed. There was hot soup all over me. I tore off my pants and sreamed for help and wet towels for my burning skin. Faith drove me to the ER while Wayne stayed at home with the girls. I have never been in so much pain in my life. My whole body was shaking, I couldn’t even talk properly, I could only get out one or two words at a time until they gave me some IV pain relief.

I stayed in the ER for 4 hours. Once my pain was under control, they gave me major amounts of fluid and my wounds were dressed, they sent me home with dressings for the next few days and pain control. I have to admit, the oral pain meds work better than I thought. I woke up Tuesday morning with no pain. Now that my wounds are healing and the skin is tightening I am more uncomfortable. I am sure I look like a total dork when I walk. I can’t move quite like I should and bending isn’t so good. The good news - I’ll be A OK and I am told that there wil be minimal scaring.

The funny thing, I didn’t realize how often I sit the girls on my lap or how much they like to kick my thighs when we are laying on the couch or playing on the floor. I put Kassie in the baby wrap today when she was having an over-tired melt down, guess where her legs reached, exactly. Did I mention she likes to kick and wiggle when she’s tired. OUCH!

I am so sorry!! I know exactly how you feel. When I was 10 a relative accidentally dropped a pot of hot chicken soup down my back. The pain was so intense that I can still remember it to this day (almost 30 years later). If you can get ahold of an aloe plant, put the stalk in the fridge and when it is cool, peel back the skin and rub in on the wounds. It really helps to cool it and keep it soft.

    Sending healing thoughts your way!

    Ouch!!!

My husband burned his hand at work a few years ago… third degree needing skin grafts. He said it was the worst pain ever. I can’t imagine… take care of yourself!
