About Me and Mine
Hello,
My name is Korrina and I am married to a wonderful, overachieving man, with OCD, Wayne. We have twin daughters, Lena and Kassie who are 6.5 months old (their corrected age is only 13 weeks though). More about them later. We also share our living quarters 30% of the time with his four children from a previous marriage, Faith 16, Jade 14, Sky 12 and Lucas 9. Yes! we are busy but really I would have it no other way. Who wants to have so much time on their hands that they actually have to find something to do? I prefer to grab the highest priority off the list that my OCD husband has left me and attempt to complete the task while waiting for the cries to summon me back to the true task at hand (keeping twin girls happy and their bellies full).
No really I couldn’t have asked for better babies, Kassie is an angel, She never cries, okay sometimes but very rarely. She is content to stare at her mobile and play. I swear if all babies were like her there would be many more families out there with 10 children. Lena is also a very good baby but she is a little more needy than her sister. She loves to be snuggled. If all she did all day was eat and snuggle she would be a VERY happy baby. Unfortunately for her there is the occasional moment during the day when I need both of my hands so she has to be put down or placed strategically in the baby wrap I requested for Christmas. I tell you no mother should be without one of these things, they are magic. More about them later too.
On with us. We live in an old character home on an acreage in rural Saskatchewan Canada. We have 40 acres of land and we have populated it well. In addition to our very full house we also care for 3 dogs, 10 cats, 6 horses, 4 llamas, 1 miniature donkey and 3 parrots. The parrots grace the house with their presence. Everyone else resides out doors. Can you believe it though. Sky thinks we need more animals. She thinks that we need a cow, not the kind you would eat, heaven forbid anything on our acreage be useful, she wants it for a pet. I draw the line at bovine pets. I think we have enough.
In my previous life (pre mom days) I was a pharmacy technician and a nursing student. I NEVER thought I could be a stay at home mom. I thought that I would go crazy at home. Now I’m pretty sure that going back to work/school may kill me. I tell you having children changes you, but having preemies changes your whole perspective on life. I mean things you used to take for granted are HUGE. Like getting huge and pregnant, having your feet swell and barely being able to walk. Better yet, being over due. I tell you I never want to hear a woman say I just want to get his baby out of here. Lady keep it in as long as you can you have no idea the value of the womb. Milestones, so many people just take for granted that their kid will smile, coo, laugh, crawl, walk etc. every milestone my girls reach breaks the odds once again, to see them walk will be a true miracle.
You see when our girls were born at 25 weeks gestation (40 is normal), we were told they were going to die. When they didn’t we were told that the chances of them living a normal life was 0%. We were told that they would never walk or talk etc. We chose to believe in our girls and they are doing wonderfully. Kassie is a normal 13 week old baby doing everything a 13 weeker should be. Lena is a little behind but she has good reason. At the end of March she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and had to undergo painful surgery to place a shunt in her head. She has recovered well but the stress of the illness and the surgery have caused some delays. I am glad to report that she is doing remarkably well and is making leaps and bounds daily.
I have started this blog for several reasons. I need a place to call my own, to be myself and to let it all loose, frustrations with motherhood and step-motherhood. I need a place to be creative and to start writing again and most importantly I need a reason to be a stay at home mom. So as my aunt so casually mentioned, everyone makes money off the Internet. Why can’t you? My husband’s response: sure makes sense and if you can make money at home go for it, otherwise you are going to have to go back to work/school. Motivation.

My baby girl wasn’t really a premie, but she was born with congenital hydrocephalus, and she had a shunt placed when she was 2 days old. She is a joy to me, as I’m sure your special girls are to you.
